Announcements
- On Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. Fr. Matthew will be having a short service followed by a class and discussion at the home of Nate and Dani Berrian in Nampa (829 Cairn Dr.). The initial topic will be the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete with other topics to follow.
- The pre-lenten period begins on Feb. 9, and that week (Feb. 9-15) is fast free.
- The feast of the Meeting of Lord falls on Saturday Feb. 15 (2). There will be vigil for the feast on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Divine Liturgy for the feast on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
- If you wish to have the Theophany blessing for your home, please contact Fr. David or Fr. Matthew to make arrangements. House blessings will conclude on Feb 23.
- The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God will be visiting our parish on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 17-18. We will greet the icon at the church when she arrives on Monday. The exact time is not yet known, but will be communicated once the flight arrangements are made. There will be Great Vespers at 6 p.m. Monday, and liturgy for the Kursk Icon at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
- There will be a Slavonic Liturgy on Saturday Feb. 22 for the Commemoration of the Departed.
- Meatfare Sunday (Great Judgment), the last day for meat before Lent begins, is Feb. 23.
- Cheese week (Feb. 24 - Mar. 2) is fast free except we do not eat meat in this week – dairy, eggs, fish wine and oil are all permitted this week.
- Additional weekday liturgies in February will be 2/6 (St. Xenia), 2/13 (unmercenaries Cyrus & John), 2/20 (St. Parthenius) and 2/27 (St. Auxentius). These liturgies will all begin at 9 a.m.
- Forgiveness Sunday is March 2. We will celebrate Forgiveness Vespers with the rite of mutual forgiveness on this day.
- Great Lent begins March 3. This is the strictest fast of the year and we abstain from all meat, dairy, fish, wine and oil during this fast.
- In the first week of Great Lent, there will be Great Compline with the Great Canon of St. Andrew every evening (Monday -
Thursday) at 6 p.m. - There are no regular weekday liturgies during Great Lent. Wednesdays during Lent there will be Presanctified Divine Liturgy in the morning at 9 a.m., with the exception of March 19 when the clergy will be out of town. In that week there will be a Friday morning (March 21) Presanctified Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m.
- On all Fridays during Lent there will be the Small Compline with the Akathist to the Virgin at 6 p.m. followed by a discussion of the book of Revelation. This is part 5 of 5 – we will be reviewing the first part of the book and then concentrating on Chapters 21 & 22, The Kingdom of God.
- There will be a Slavonic Liturgy on Saturday March 22 at 9 a.m. for the 40 Martyrs of Sebaste.
