One of our most beloved traditions is the blessing of homes with the water blessed at Theophany. This takes place after the water is blessed at the feast and before the beginning of Great Lent. In order prepare to have your house blessed, prepare a small table in front of your icons with a largish bowl for the holy water (the priest will bring the water) and a candle (or you can have one for each person present to hold). You should also have all the interior doors of the house open or ajar. When we bless the house, be prepared to lead the priest around to each room as we sing the Tropar and sprinkle the Holy Water. Afterwards it is customary to provide a little hospitality (tea, a meal, or a big party – up to you) and perhaps a small gift (see the “how much does it cost” article). Make sure you make the appointment for your blessing with Fr. David or Fr. Matthew soon in order to secure the day and time you want.
