Announcements
  • The parish altar feast (prestolniy prazdnik) is on Thursday Aug. 1 (7/19). There will be Vigil for the feast on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning. There will be a general celebration for the feast on the following Sunday (Aug. 4).  Archbishop Kyrill will visit the parish on Aug. 3 and 4 to celebrate the parish feast with us.  There will be a light meal with the Archbishop at the Church hall after the Liturgy on Sunday and then later in the day (about 3 p.m.) there will be a dinner in the Archbishop’s honor at the home of John and Natasha Ford in Middleton.  Maps to their house will be available.
  • There will be an end of summer pool party for the youth (teenagers) at the Ford home on Aug. 8. We will begin at about 6 p.m. and there will be a brief spiritual talk and conversation to finish the evening. Contact Natasha Ford for additional information.
  • There will be a Slavonic Liturgy on Saturday Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. for the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. We hope to schedule additional Slavonic Liturgies (1x/month) in the future.
  • Dormition Fast begins Wednesday Aug. 14 (8/1). This is a short (2 weeks), but intense fast. It is strict, just like Great Lent and only interrupted by the Feast of Transfiguration (fish day) on Aug. 19 (8/6). For the feast there will be Vigil on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. and Divine Liturgy for the feast Monday morning at 9 a.m.   Bring any firstfruits that you would like to have blessed to the liturgy.
  • The fast will end on Aug. 27 (8/14). The feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God falls on Wednesday Aug. 28 (8/15). There will be Vigil for the feast on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy for the feast on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
  • The feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God falls on Saturday Sept. 21 (9/8). Vigil for the feast will begin at 6 p.m on Friday evening and Liturgy will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
  • The feast of The Elevation of the Holy Cross falls on Friday, Sept. 27 (9/14). Vigil for the feast will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening and Liturgy will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday.
  • Note that all feast day liturgies will be followed by a potluck coffee hour.
  • Additional weekday liturgies in August will be 8/8 (St. Hermolaus), and 8/15 (Protomartyr Stephen). In September they will be 9/5 (apodosis/leave-taking of Dormition) and 9/12 (Alexander Nevsky). These liturgies will all begin at 9 a.m.
  • We have been working to bring a privately produced film about the Orthodox Church in Alaska to Boise.  Matushka Rebekah has contacted the filmmaker for background information on cost, type of venue needed, etc. but now we need someone to take the ball and run with it. Please contact her if you would be willing to work on bringing this film to Boise.
