Welcome to St. Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church. We are an American mission parish of the Russian Orthodox Church. In our parish you will find Orthodox Christians from many different backgrounds. Of course there are Russians and Americans, however you will also find Serbs, Bulgarians, Romanians and others. Because we are a mission parish, our services are mostly in English, however, there is also some Slavonic as a remembrance of our ties to the Russian Church. We are under the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, headed by Metropolitan HILARION of New York and Eastern America. We are in the diocese of Western America under the pastoral rule of Archbishop KYRILL of San Francisco and Western America. We welcome your visit both here on our webpage and in person at our parish.
Due to the “stay at home” order issued by the governor’s office, it is no longer possible at the present time to hold public services at the Church. Be assured, however, that services will continue to be served by the clergy. All usual commemorations (pomianiki) will be included at the Divine Liturgy. Essential pastoral care (including the provision of sacraments) may be arranged by contacting Fr. David or Fr. Matthew directly (you may also leave a message on the Church answering machine). On the assumption that the governor’s order will not be extended beyond the initial period (21 days) and subject to whatever additional regulations may come about, Holy Week services will resume without interruption at that time.
Holy water will be available in the hall for those who would like to bring a container to fill. If you don't have a key to the hall, let Fr. David know so he can let you in.
The construction work for the church remodeling project to raise the roof is complete! We are now turning our attention to the finish work and decoration of the interior of the building. Fr. Matthew has proposed a plan for the iconography he would like to do. Details may be found here. If you would like to sponsor a particular icon or have other suggestions, send a message to Fr. David or Fr. Matthew via the Contact page. Payments can be made with the PayPal button at the bottom of this page - be sure to include a note with the payment if it is for a particular icon or toward the iconography in general.
