Announcements

  • Fr. David will be in Corvallis Feb. 6-7 for the dedication of their new parish hall. There will be Reader’s Vespers on Saturday evening. Those who wish to prepare to receive the Mysteries at the Liturgy on Sunday Feb. 8 should contact Fr. David to confess earlier in the week as there will not be an opportunity on Saturday evening.
  • The first week of the pre-lenten period (Feb. 1-7) is a fast free week.
  • Sunday Feb. 15 is the Great Feast of the Meeting of the Lord. It is also the Sunday of the Great Judgment and the last day that we will eat meat before Pascha. The week of Feb. 16-22 is Cheese week, and milk, cheese, eggs and all other non-meat foods are permitted.
  • Sunday Feb. 22 is the Sunday of Forgiveness/Cheesefare. This is the last day before the beginning of Great Lent and the last day to eat cheese, milk, eggs and fish before Pascha. On this day also we prepare for Great Lent by forgiving one another. Vespers with the Rite of Forgiveness will be served immediately following the Liturgy.
  • Great Lent begins Monday Feb. 23. During this week there will be Great Compline with the Canon of St. Andrew of Crete at 6 p.m. through Thursday. On Friday will be the Small Canon with the Akathist to the Mother of God.
  • Every Friday during Great Lent (starting 2/27) following the Akathist there will be soup, bread and the discussion of the book The Struggle for Virtue in the parish hall. There are a few copies of the book for sale at our parish candle counter, and additional copies will be ordered on Feb. 15 (please let Fr. David know if you want to order one).
  • Presanctified Divine Liturgy will be served every Wednesday during Great Lent at 8 a.m. Those who wish to receive the Presanctified Mysteries should prepare as usual.
